My grandfather came to the States from Holland in ’33, with his wife, my dad and his sister, and fifty cases of Heineken. Our family was the sole importer of the Heineken brand for sixty years… and my grandfather was quite the bon vivant. I’ve always known that our grandfather enjoyed all the stuff his success afforded him, but we never expected to see him in the Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Windows. You see, my brother Leo was visiting from San Francisco and spent some time looking at your holiday windows. As he appreciated the giant photo of the dancers’ audience on 58th Street, he spotted a few family faces in the crowd: our grandfather and grandmother, both in formal attire, at the Metropolitan Opera. As our grandparents have been gone for a long time, it was wonderful to see them again in this unexpected way.
