BG Ambassador Haya Maraka, on her trip to see the Dior Cruise Collection:
“Originally meant to be shown in Los Angeles, the last minute decision for Christian Dior to switch their Cruise 2016 show to Cannes made a lot more sense upon arrival in the French Riviera. The Pierre Cardin’s Bubble palace felt like walking into another era; the breathtaking views, the glamorous atmosphere and the beautifully dressed crowd. The pink palace’s bubbles reminded me of the ever-popular Dior tribal earrings (maybe that’s where they got the inspiration). Splashes of pink and sprinkles of blue pools grazing the ocean, it was the perfect welcome for any cruise collection. Although the very futuristic house seemed of the moment, renowned architect Antti Lovag in fact built it between 1975 and 1989.
After an hour of mingling the show finally started. Raf Simons, who is always a daring designer, added a very modern edge to your average Cruise collection. It almost felt like what a modern day Marie Antoinette would wear, had she been around in 2015 with a full time job. Flat shoes were prominent, and unlike the location the collection was very minimal, featuring a lot of A-Line pieces. The woman presented at Dior Cruise was simple, elegant and easy going.”
