Fashion Postcards

We asked some of our globe-trotting designers to share their most recent trips, their favorite destinations and where they’re going next.

Eugenie Niarchos

While her jewelry for Venyx takes on shapes from outer space, the Londoner stays earthbound, drawing inspiration from journeys to far-flung locales.
Favorite destination: Traveling around the Greek islands is a must. Every island is so special. I love everything about Greece. The history, the culture, the nature, the food and more…Every year, I try to go to a new Greek isle…I fell in love with Patmos. The energy there is very special. The next one I am planning to explore is Crete. I’m dying to visit the archaeological site of Knossos and hike the Samariá Gorge.
Favorite hotel amenity: The spa. I’m very fond of Thai massages and any other strong massages. I especially love the spa of The Imperial hotel in New Delhi. I instantly melt when I enter it.

Edgardo Osorio

Born in Colombia, raised between London and Miami, and now based in Italy, the designer creates alluring shoes for Aquazzura, coveted by women around the world.
Last big trip: My summer started in Mykonos at the beginning of July. Then, I sailed to Sardinia, Capri and ended in Saint-Tropez. In August, I divided my time between St. Bart’s and California. I love spending time in Malibu and the Napa Valley.
Always in your carry-on: SK-II eye masks, face moisturizer, and my cashmere travel blanket and pillow
Favorite place to relax: Anywhere sunny with beautiful beaches. I love Patmos in Greece. It’s so laid-back there.

Camilla Franks

The Sydney-based designer’s vibrant, bohemian caftans and swimsuits for Camilla are made for globe-trotting adventures.
Favorite destination: India. It’s my second home, after all. This beautiful country has taught me so much and gives nothing but love. I try to visit as often as I can, as it always inspires me.
Always in your carry-on: My Akubra hat, lip balm, a cashmere wrap and a notepad
Favorite hotel amenity: Does the bar count?
Reason you travel: Travel has, and always will, be the beating heart of Camilla. But personally, travel lets my wandering gypsy heart flourish! It opens the mind and allows the soul to connect with everything this beautiful world has to offer.

Nicky Zimmermann

Her feminine, flattering swimsuits have propelled her Sydney-based label, Zimmermann, to global appeal.
Always in your carry-on: My iPad and headphones, Lucas’ Papaw Ointment, moisturizer, a big cashmere scarf, my notepad that I draw in…
Favorite hotel amenity: I love the complimentary candy basket, and the Twizzlers in particular, at the Greenwich Hotel in New York.
Favorite trip souvenir: I like to buy hand-embroidered garments.
Favorite place to relax: Greece. We visit often, and it’s somewhere I just really love. This summer, we spent a week in Hydra, which was just so easy and relaxing. I love the routine of walking to the harbor each morning and catching a short water taxi to one of the local beaches. One of my favorites is Plakes Beach—you can spend the morning on the beach and then wander up to the Four Seasons taverna for a simple but amazing Greek lunch.

Donna Karan

The groundbreaking designer’s new collection, Urban Zen, is inspired by the work of artisans around the world.
Favorite destinations: Bali and Haiti
Favorite hotel: Como Shambhala Estate in Bali and Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos
Last big trip: Bali
Next big trip: South America and Tibet
Always in your carry-on: Scarf, bodysuit and leggings
Best travel partner: Calvin Klein
Reason you travel: I love connecting with culture, the people and their artistry.

Derek Lam

The New Yorker filters influences from frequent trips abroad into his refined American sportswear.
Most memorable trip: India was spectacular, greater than what I even imagined.
Always in your carry-on: iPad, sketch pad, pens, lip balm
Favorite souvenir: Textiles made locally. For inspiration.
Favorite place to relax: In a hammock
Best travel partner: An open heart

Luke Edward Hall

The London-based interior designer and artist incorporates sketches from trips across Europe into prints for his line of pillows and home furnishings.
Favorite destination: Italy, always. I love the culture, the architecture, the people, the countryside and probably, most importantly, the food. Italy inspires me to no end.
Favorite hotel: I’m a big fan of Le Sirenuse in Positano. The owners, Antonio and Carla Sersale, pour their hearts and souls into this wonderful hotel. Situated high above the sea, Le Sirenuse commands a fabulous view of the town and includes the recently opened and very fun Franco’s Bar. We celebrated my birthday there in August with dinner at the hotel’s incredible restaurant, La Sponda. Twinkling lights, twinkling music, lots of wine and perfect pasta. It was magical.
Reason you travel: For a variety of reasons. I like to travel to see new things, to get inspired, to relax. Food is always super important though. I’m pretty good at scouting out the most authentic places to try. It’s like a sixth sense!
