Three places I return to again and again.

North Fork, Long Island
Decidedly unhip and unhappening, but it has other qualities-for my taste, better qualities. It’s all about farm stands, tomatoes, fresh doughnuts, Wickham’s pies, sailing, biking, sunning, enclaves of friends, the Sound, the Bay, picturesque vineyards and sky-watching. Pretty much the definition of summertime.
Le Sirenuse, Positano, Italy
First, there’s the location! Perched cliffside on the Amalfi coast, with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. Then there’s the hotel itself: the red-and-white stucco building, the accumulated antiques, the dining terraces, the citron yellow tiled fountain and champagne bar. Most important, there are the hosts and owners, Carla and Antonio Sersale, who run it like the family home it is! It’s everything you might imagine the good life to be.
La Fontelina, Capri, Italy
Without question, my favorite lunch spot in the world, nestled in the rocks of the rustic and legendary beach club. Water sparkling, bodies tanning, the famous Faraglioni rock formations almost touchable. Drinking bottles of rose and not feeling guilty for one second about eating pasta adorned with deliciously wicked black sea urchins. Afternoon siestas are included.
