SXSW: Let the Games Begin
The convergence on Austin for SxSW is a welcome rite for music fans. Yes it’s intense – more than 1,300 bands of every genre playing everywhere you can imagine -but it’s also thrilling. There are major attractions of the intellectual variety (Andrew Bird, Magnetic Fields), welcome reunions (Jesus & Mary Chain), emerging powers (Sharon Van Etten, Beach Fossils). But most of the acts have not yet arrived. We’re looking forward to bands with a bright future, like Exitmusic, No, and Trust. When you accept the fact that you can’t see everything a calm washes over you and that grants you the endurance to deal with the heat, the crowds, the noise.
Yes, we’re descending on SxSW for the madness (one of us has been here for interactive since Friday). Stay tuned for the rest of the week for the best from Austin. For the obsessed, there’s nowhere else to be.
