About Mansur Gavriel

Subtlety is their Bag

After all the “it bags” have sounded their fanfare, the chic woman tends to treasure those that whisper rather than shout.

MANSUR GAVRIEL makes leather goods with classically refined silhouettes that say more about the owner than the designer. Superbly crafted of Tuscan vegetable-tanned leather in Italy, Mansur Gavriel’s bags offer wonderful shapes and colors to suit the discriminating individualist.

Friday

Hello Texas. I’m back. Remember me? Your long-lost daughter of the lone star state… Well, here I am at Stubbs BBQ, terrified that I’m going to spill BBQ sauce on these pristine Isabel Marant Etoile pants and Joseph top.

Today is a get-in-the-mode day, settle in the pace and catch up with folks I saw all of two days ago. But that’s what SXSW is like — you see New Yorkers in a totally Texas setting.

So travel Friday was a mix of prints. I found my inspiration in Grace’s 5F ad campaign photo (in Etoile jeans and Acne moto jacket) but added the Joseph top & Dannijo bib necklace for good measure. It must be known that these jeans are cropped jeans on model Grace but on 5’1″ Cannon they fit like perfect ankle length jeans. Keep that in mind, short girls. Love, love, love the Acne jacket but a bit terrified I will catch the slashed leather on a chair (oh, oops! I already did) but it may be the coolest jacket I ever wore.

As for my shoes? They’re Vince and terrifically comfortable. You need these shoes. No break-in necessary.

And the bag… It’s the Mansur Gavriel bucket that one of you may win… And it’s so incredibly light-weight I forget that it’s on my shoulder.

So lunch is ending… siesta time is calling. We’ll see if I’m inspired to put something new on for dinner.

Saturday

What do you wear when it’s 55* and raining? Particularly when the majority of your clothes are better suited for a sunny summer day?
First step: consider fabric. ALC’s striped top & skirt combo is without a doubt the most insulating, so I paired that with the trip’s hero piece: Veronica Beard’s blazer with removable striped dickie. There’s something really fantastic about this blazer – not only is it incredibly warm, the hood saved the day when unexpected Texas thunderstorms rolled through. Continuing with the striped theme, I wore Vince’s striped python sneakers – so incredibly comfortable.
While warm enough for the day, I must confess I was a bit chilled as night rolled through (it was raining and 45*) – but the mash-up of stripes was playful without feeling overdone.

It’s supposed to be even colder tomorrow – so who knows what will happen!

Sunday

I said brrrrr. It’s cold in here.  Greetings from Texas – it’s cloudy and today’s high hovered around 55*. I know I should be thankful for these practically tropical temperatures but after New York’s polar winter, I’m ready for sunshine and sun dresses!  Rumor has it the sun will come out tomorrow.

Anyhow. Today called for creative layering, so wore Joie’s printed tank and maxi skirt with Acne’s slashed Moto jacket. I’m not usually a bohemian dresser but I love love loved this combo of prints and texture.  And while I practically swim in the Acne jacket (samples are made for models rather than 5’1″ geeks), it was a fun piece to mix with head-to-toe prints. Something to keep in mind, though: this moto jacket is very breezy.
Joie’s clingy knit skirt was about three inches too long so gave it a few rolls at the waist and paired with Rag & Bone’s classic Newbury ankle boot. I must confess that I’ve never worn the Newbury and found these kicky booties incredibly comfortable – even after walking the mile and a half from Lucy’s Fried Chicken back to downtown Austin.
Had a blast accessorizing today with new-to-5F’s Anndra Neen cuff and Tomtom bracelet.  According to our stylist, double cuffs are all the rage right now.
Finished off the look with BOYY’s mini backpack and let me tell you: this backpack is pretty darned marvelous.  It’s interior pockets and dividers kept all items in check while the backpack double-straps left me hands-free. Love this bag and cannot wait to meet the minds behind BOYY later this month.

Tonight’s even cooler temperatures inspired true creativity.  While I finally succumbed to tights, I paired Rebecca Taylor’s printed dress with not one but two Laveer pieces – a thin suede moto jacket and thick leather vest. Completely and absolutely smitten with it.  While you can’t see the jacket’s rad tie-dye print, the combo works well together. Finished it off with Rag’s Newbury’s, another Anndra Neen cuff and Campbell earrings.
We’ll see how warm it is once the temperature drops….

Monday

It’s finally warm! Celebrate! Mercury rose above 70*! Get ready, Austin, because you’re about to see some seriously pale legs. It is glorious.

As a result of unending enthusiasm for springlike weather, paired not one but two Isabel Marant skirts (layered) with a printed Tibi top and netty Laveer vest. It was kind of an unexpected combo but it fell together quite well. Topped off with Dannijo bib necklace and Campbell/Tomtom bangles. Finished look with spacy 3.1 Phillip Lim sneaks and Isabel Marant par Oliver Peoples sunnies. Carried the goods in the very rocker Boyy over-the-shoulder.

Ran into the amazingly crafty Erica Domesek of PS… I Made This and invited her to join #Sx5F with an eyelet Jonathan Simkhai dress, Acne moto jacket and Vince sneaks. E finished hers with the singular Mansur Gavriel bucket. Yes, we both were shoppable.

As the day progressed to cloudy and cold, switched into Frame’s overalls (now totally obsessed) and new favorite layered Laveer vest/moto combo. Honestly I love how it looks like a colorblocked motorcycle jacket with a flash of tie-dye.

Tomorrow is my final full day at SxSW and I’m looking forward to more sunshine and another warm day. (Apparently snow is on New York’s forecast.) We’ll see!

TUESDAY

Tuesday

Bask in the sunshine! Savor the day!! Tuesday marked the warmest day of SxSW and it certainly was the day to don Thakoon Additions’ darling eyelet frock with deep-dip back.

Can I begin by saying how much I love this dress?  (And this is coming from a distinctly non-dress person.) It’s just flirty enough to feel femme but the lace-print twill kept the look from going too girly.  Since it was cool in the morning, covered things up with Laveer’s leather moto vest (from which I will be deeply sad to depart).  Kept accessories in the tribal beats feel with Tomtom’s collar necklace, Dannijo earrings and a few Tomtom bangles.  Returned to my incredibly comfortable Vince sneakers.  After mentoring with Decoded Fashion, took my summery look for a spin at the Spotify house before basking in the final rays of sunshine at the Four Season’s lawn (where I met this little furry friend).

This is my final Sx5F entry – so sad to say farewell! Time to begin reviewing your instagrams… had such fun playing hide & seek with you.

You know what they say… Third Time’s a Charm.

As this is my third year at the annual nerd-fest known as South by Southwest, we thought it only would make sense to do it big this year.  Sure, I may not be speaking on a panel or hosting an event requiring a password and seventeen wristbands — but I’m bringing 5F with me.  Ok. Now before you get excited thinking this is a pop-up shop, it isn’t.  It’s better.

5F’s more exciting than ever.  Now you can find names like Kenzo, Elle Sasson, MSGM and Acne next to favorites like Helmut Lang, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Rag & Bone.  It’s on 5F that you can discover a surfer girl who specializes in designing the best jackets and vests ever (Laveer) or a couple of guys who set out to make perfectly fitting denim (RtA).

Jewelry?  We’re adding new names like Campbell and Andra Neen to our shelves while handbags welcomed Khirma Eliazov, Clare V, Time’s Arrow, Dannijo and most recently BOYY and Mansur Gavriel.  So much goodness.

So when thinking of anniversarying our SxSW challenge (recall last year’s #SxBB and the previous year’s #RockstudChallenge ?), it only made sense to celebrate all that is new on 5F.  We called up our new 5F friends and asked them to help a girl out.  While last year I wore Manolo Blahnik BBs to every panel, event and burrito stand, this year I will be head-to-toe 5F. I am a painfully casual dresser — when not wearing vintage-plucked-from-Mom’s-closet, I’m in denim and a moto jacket.  So, in it’s own strange sense, this will be a challenge…. because dresses are involved.  And most dresses make me look like a schoolgirl.

And just like the previous years, I’ll recount what I’m wearing each day so you’ll see how RtA’s latest jeans fit on a real person rather than our gorgeous, long-legged campaign model.  Frame Denim overalls? They’re coming.  As is the sick Acne leather jacket (honestly it’s a bit bigger on me than gorgeous Grace but we’ll see….I’ll make it work, hopefully).  Like something I’ve ‘grammed?  We’ve teamed up with 52Grams to make our #Sx5F Instagrams completely shoppable.  So if you don’t want to call the number in the caption, visit* 52Grams/Sx5F and order what you want.  It’s that simple.

But the big question is where do you come in?  You know we couldn’t have another Sx-challenge without sharing the goodies with my nerd-champions.  So here’s the deal: follow @bergdorfs for location clues, instagram me while using the #Sx5F tag (bonus points for tagging the designers).  Feel free to art direct and style me in any way you want.  In fact, get creative.  Use ThisWildIdea or TwoApplesADay or whoever is your favorite insta-account as inspiration.  We like creativity here.

And your prize? This is where things get good, really good.
You know Mansur Gavriel?  Yes, the bag that everyone wants but can’t get because it’s so dang hot that it can’t even make it to the shelves?  Well… guess what I got. (Let’s be honest: this is the fastest way of bypassing any wait-list.)  And that’s not all: our prize also includes Dannijo earrings, Oliver Peoples sunglasses and a few beauty goods we can’t stop using.  It’s ok if you want to hug me right now.

So if you’re going to SxSW Interactive, follow my tweets, find & instagram me.  It’s cool. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself.  It’s called social for a reason — let’s socialize.  And if you don’t live in the City, bribe a friend find & photograph me.  People did it last year….
