Spring Spotlight: Altuzarra’s Prints Gone Wild
What do Hawaiian Shirts, Toucans, Palm Leaves and Parrots have in common? They all served as inspiration behind the Altuzarra Spring/Summer 2012 tropical print, which you can now find perched on the Third Floor.
My inspiration for Spring’s signature print came from all things feathered and exotic. This print evolved into two specific color palettes but birds were the base layer for both versions. As you can see in the first layer, birds in motion came out to play:
I chose to enhance the negative space by digitally layering exotic leaves and flowers. Look closely at the two versions below, Green Palm (left) and Orange Flower (right), can you still find all the birds that formed the first layer?
When the designing collection, I paired Green Palm with black perforated leather, and the Orange Flower always went with white.

The Palm leaves and foliage theme continued on the runway set, too!

Whether it was a dress, shirt or pair of pants, we really couldn’t get enough of this print. We loved the print on everything!
Put a bird on it! One can’t help but think birds are probably the boldest animal of the season, as the timeless wallpaper at BG Restaurant attests:
