As you well know, we’re seriously obsessed with shoes (we’ve even created a map to track our well-heeled obsessions).  This week we are thrilled to introduce you to 5th/58th’s latest blog series, Shoe Obsessions.  Each week our shoe-obsessed to the point of giddy assistant buyer, Rachel, will fill you in on the hottest styles and trends to hit our Shoe Salons.

This week?  Colorblocking.

Color blocking was a major trend across all categories in fashion this season, but we absolutely love this trend on shoes! It’s the perfect graphic approach to incorporating more color into your wardrobe and rejuvenating your spring look. I love the drama yet versatility this trend brings, working for virtually anyone, no matter what your personal style may be.

Shocking bright colors is one of my favorite ways to wear this trend. Sure to make everyone stop, stare, and ask ‘where’d you get those shoes!?’ It doesn’t get much brighter then these…  The patent leather platform demi-wedge from Giuseppe Zanotti is the perfect mix of electric hues. I especially like the white statement buckle on the ankle strap. Pairing it with Phillip Lim’s leopard jumpsuit is brilliant!

This Brian Atwood peep toe patent platform pump brings ‘day-glo’ to a whole new level. Who doesn’t love a fabulous florescent?

Charlotte Olympia dresses this trend up a bit with this satin style. The tone-on-tone purple color-way pump is the perfect approach to take to utilize color-blocking in a more subdued way.

If you’re looking for a more ladylike silhouette… The detailing in these striking Dior suede and patent sandals is superb. I love how the colors are all outlined with this black patent leather piping. It’s the perfect way to break up the colors and differentiate it from other color block styles.

This Manolo Blahnik combines our color block trend with another favorite shoe trend of the season – the spectator. This lace up sandal is so fresh and feminine, the bold red and fuchsia color blocking definitely make this a spring favorite.

We cant forget some of our favorite 5F styles that give us plenty of great color-blocking for spring/summer. Try it on an espadrille with these MYMU wedges – brand new to the store! They are playful and vibrant in and array of colorful canvas fabrics. Wedges are notoriously comfortable to walk in and we love this whimsical take on the trend.

Rachel

Rachel is an assistant buyer for our Second Floor Shoe Salon. First joining us as an intern, this Mid-West girl discovered her shoe obsessions as a wee one admiring a pair of Victorian booties that inevitably inspired massive pangs of envy.  From then on, she was hooked — from spinning about as a child in crystal-flecked Converse to discovering Fashion City’s sample sales just after college. In fact, Rachel has been known to spend her entire Saturday in our Shoe Salon, searching for her next pair.  You can follow more of Rachel’s shoe adventures on Instagram.
