Shoe Obsession: Alexander McQueen

As you well know, we’re seriously obsessed with shoes (we’ve even created a map to track our well-heeled obsessions). This week we are thrilled to introduce you to 5th/58th’s latest blog series, Shoe Obsessions. Each week our shoe-obsessed to the point of giddy assistant buyer, Rachel, will fill you in on the hottest styles and trends to hit our Shoe Salons.
This week? Alexander McQueen.
The Alexander McQueen spring runway show arose from the wonders of nature and the sea, and Sarah Burton’s intricate details were seen from head to toe. Her Python Platform Wedge sandal graced the pages of our Spring Shoe Book with goddess-like proportions — in shimmering, metallic gold. Another notable feature is its sculptural, curved wedge. Completely hand-made, the undulating shape is achieved when craftsman hand skive its elaborate shell detail — an incredibly time-consuming measure. For those of you who consider your shoe collection equal to collecting art, this is a pair to add to your collection.

Also available in black satin (below), owning a shoe like this is like owning a piece of art.
A few more of my favorite pieces from the McQueen Spring Collection:

We also adore these spring McQueen shoes for every little detail:
This snake skin pump and caged platform sandal feature a lacquered wood heel resembling horn. We love the sexy silhouette of this curved heel that really elongates the leg.
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN T-Strap Platform Sandal, 212 872 8940
This lace up Ghilly sandal ties right up your ankle. The complex stitching is preeminent and every girl needs this camel color in their spring shoe collection!

Let our shoes come to you
Rachel is an assistant buyer for our Second Floor Shoe Salon. First joining us as an intern, this Mid-West girl discovered her shoe obsessions as a wee one admiring a pair of Victorian booties that inevitably inspired massive pangs of envy. From then on, she was hooked — from spinning about as a child in crystal-flecked Converse to discovering Fashion City’s sample sales just after college. In fact, Rachel has been known to spend her entire Saturday in our Shoe Salon, searching for her next pair. You can follow more of Rachel’s shoe adventures on Instagram.
