Safe Sun Review: Clinique

5 4 2012

May is Melanoma Awareness month and we’re really proud to partner with the Melanoma Research Alliance to support Melanoma research.

Today, our Beauty Editor Felicia shares the one thing her beauty routine is never ever without — broad spectrum sunscreen…

Clinique Even Better, 212 872 2782

I might as well admit it — my daily skin care routine is a beast. Seriously! There are no less than 7 strategically applied steps. . . and the Beauty Girl in me loves every. single. step. It’s just who I am. I adore skin care and don’t mind spending an inordinate amount of time treating my skin. But whenever someone asks: What’s the one thing I can do to protect against pre-maturely aged skin” (i.e. wrinkles, discoloration, dullness, etc.), I always give the same advice – wear broad spectrum sunscreen.

I am a total realist and get that the average woman is not going to take the 7+ daily steps that I take to keep my skin pristine. And while I definitely think that everyone can benefit from a simple daily routine of proper cleansing, appropriate treatment, and sun protection — If I’m pressed on the topic of the “ONE” thing. . . you know, the “if stranded on a deserted island” thing —  I always say that sunscreen is non-negotiable.  And here’s why:

The sun is SO damaging. Harmful UV rays prematurely age and discolor skin. Uneven tone becomes more uneven with unprotected sun exposure. UVA rays wrinkle the skin and cause skin cancer. UVB rays burn the skin and cause irreparable surface damage. It’s not a pretty scene, girls (and guys)…

For years, Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Lotion SPF 20 has been one of my go-to moisturizing sunscreens (I started out using the cream version, but later switched to the oil-free formulation). It not only defends against UVA/UVB exposure, it also helps banish post-acne blemishes (I breakout sometimes – boo!), lighten dark/age spots, and brighten uneven complexion. For tough dark spots, give it about 4-8 weeks to see results.

The newly revamped oil-free lotion is perfect for acne-prone skin, like mine. However, if you have dry skin, try the original, creamier formula (Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20).

Make sunscreen your beauty non-negotiable. Wear it every single day!
