Exclusively Ours: Roland Mouret
Always tailored, always chic, Roland Mouret has perfected minimalism.
The son of a French butcher, Mouret never studied fashion but began his career as an artistic director, model and stylist before starting his own Demi-Couture Collection in 1998. Celebrated for his precise shapes, Mouret polished the tight-but-still-flattering dress. This morning the designer presented his Custom and Spring 2011 Collections to us.
Created exclusively for Bergdorf Goodman, the Custom Collection presents 17 iconic Roland Mouret silhouettes inspired by sartorial suiting and Fall’s lean toward textured fabrics. Featuring bright wintry colors, the designer worked closely with our buying team to select favorite patterns and fabrics from the archives in his London studio. Among these rich Fall hues, Mouret pointed to a camel dress and noted that the color was his favorite among the assortment of mustards, bold reds, neutral grays and subtle menswear prints
In addition to his Custom Collection, Mouret presented his Spring 2011 Collection. Understanding the importance of relevancy, Mouret showed a soft evolution of his architectural definition and introduced softer shapes in bold spring colors such as teal and coral. Still carefully calculated, the collection still features Mouret’s signature draping and feminine shapes. Notable pieces included the Nikiya gown in acid-green, a loose single-seam gown, as well as a clever blouse and skirt piece that converts into a blouse with jacket.
