Day 1

On this gloomy rainy Wednesday, I aimed for fashion’s favorite uniform: wacky Celine sunnies, striped mariner shirt, high-waisted cigarette pants and these funny little Bass-meets-Jil-Sander oxfords I picked up at Target over the weekend (to those who scoff, the obligatory NYFW-prep Target run is a time-honored affair requiring one to dash through the store grabbing goods more fitting for a wilderness survival session rather than in the wilds of Fashion City.  It’s quite likely that one’s attention can wander from exhilarating items like blister pads, nutrition bars and miniature sewing kits to those of the more colorful variety which explains these funny little suede kicks).

Since summer was devoted to a certain chartreuse Proenza Schouler PS1 Tote (212 872 2601), I was eager to have a change of arm candy… which brings me to this splendid NOIR tote entirely covered with onyx studs (212 872 2577).  In terms of size, the bag is perfect for the forthcoming week’s manic schedule.  It’s big enough to hold everything from the usual suspects like wallet, book, beauty kit & phone to my Fashion Week additions (think camera, Mophie, iPad, mifi, beauty kit and other survival goods like Advil, Salonpas, mini bottles of water and nut-based nibbles better suited for a squirrel).  The double-interior pocket perfectly stores my iPhone and backup Mophie charger, while the zipper pocket immediately behind is perfect for easy badge access.

We all know my weakness for a cross-body strap and NOIR’s is slight enough to not overwhelm one’s balance however the studs can lend to prickly surprises.  The other observation is that of weight: studs make for a sturdier heft.  So I must be mindful of that for busier dates.

Although shows began today, I only attended Rachel Comey.  It was a quick dash in & out, then back to the office for our last-minute prep before Fashion’s Night Out, Fashion Week and all of the thrilling surprises we have waiting for you to discover in the coming weeks.

Tonight is the employee screening of our documentary, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorfs, then I’m hitching the L-train over to Williamsburg for a bit of rooftop time at the Wyeth.  I purposefully keep it low-key before Fashion’s Night Out – in my personal style and in evening activity.  Tomorrow surely will be a flurry of activity. I have my eye on the razzle-dazzle VaVaVoom Flap Bag (212 872 2577) when a petite crossbody is of the essence.

Day 2

What day is it again?

Right. Friday. Jason Wu day. Rag & Bone and Helmut Lang day. First interview in our Cadillac Confessional series day.  Giving the #bg111 Caddy its inaugural spin day. In other words, it’s a packed and busy and locked and loaded day.

Although (or perhaps even because) I’m hitching a ride with BG Fashion Director throughout the day, I need a bag that not only looks smart but can act as my office away from the office.  I’ve always been keen for a vintage appeal and so chose the mixed-media patchwork Noir to complement my long-fringed skirt, leather tee (note to self: avoid leather tees until it’s cooler out) and Ash Wedge Sneakers.

Since this is the first busy day of Fashion Week, I wanted a shoe that gave support but also added a touch of color to my all-black look (strange but I’ve been noticing that Noir inspires noir head-to-toe).

The mixed-media Noir couldn’t be more perfect: cross-body strap lends to hands-free all the time, interior pockets perfectly fit my iPhone and mobile wifi device, and zip-pocket nicely conceals charers, blister bandages and the like.  Its interior is quite spacious, too. At one point I was stowing wallet, BG Bottled water, invites, line sheets, iPad, iPhone beauty kit, sunnies, paper fan and a take-away sandwich.

Day 3

Played up the texture today.

Paired the Allover Studded NOIR with an old Opening Ceremony cropped sweater and vintage Escada leather pants I cut into shorts a few years ago.

Starting to feel a dash of the Fashion Flu so thought it best to amp up the look during a moderately busy day that began in the Meatpacking District for Malandrino, Bastian and Skaist Taylor and ends at DVF.

Day 4

What day is it again?
Aching for a serious perk-me-up so donned my momma’s vintage rodeo jacket in a bold, bold red. Every time I wear it, I smile.

Feet are starting to buckle under pressure, so gave them a break with the NOIR kitten heels – they’re seriously the most comfortable heels in the wide world. And guess what? Linda’s wearing her NOIR kitties, too!

Long day ahead… double- and triple-booked on the hour, every hour til late in the night so hope that my tired soles will keep up with the pace.

Day 5

Hello Tuesday…..it feels like Fall! Crystal clear, crisp blue skies. New York looks grand.

Another back-to-back busy day, so dressing comfortably in my favorite Dries Van Noten skirt, gray tee and space-y Tabitha Simmons ankle scuba boots. Pairing with a NOIR tote chock-full of Early Bird granola bars for Linda & NM prez Jim Gold.  It’s important to keep up the sustenance – and we’ve all become obsessed with these salty-sweet nibbles.
