Faces of 5F: A Casting Call

@Bergdorfs shares her thoughts on tomorrow's Faces of 5F Casting

7 6 2011

The time has come… after reviewing over 1,200 submissions (that’s 2,400 pictures and 1,200 very distinct personalities from different cities), we finally narrowed down our semi-finalists and look forward to meeting them tomorrow. And, by tomorrow night, we will be one step closer to knowing who our Faces of 5F will be.

Today though, twenty-five names are on our minds — so, while we prepare to meet them, we thought we would introduce them to you. Some are local, others will be flying in… some are young and still in school, while others are proud mothers, stylists, writers, actors and graphic designers. Favorite songs include Cat Stevens’ If You Want to Sing Out, Rolling in Deep by Adele and Brenton Wood’s Gimme Little Sign. Some are tall (6-feet!), while a few stand closer to 5’3″; they collect shoes, postcards, chambray shirts, memories and wisdom, as well as the buttons from the MET.  Favorite models included those featured within the pages of our own magazine (Ataui Deng, Tao Okamoto); while others preferred more familiar names like Kate Moss, Liya Kebede and Lara Stone.  But, like so many of you, they all share a giddy love for style and the artistry that often accompanies it.

Sifting through the entries was the fun part — we quickly replaced our morning coffee routine with a frenzied exchange of emails between the Bergdorf Goodman and Lucky offices.  Every day we were inspired by a new face, a new answer, a new perspective; and, as the days raced toward June 24th, we quietly began to prepare the judging process.  Once Friday arrived, submissions continued to stream through, steadily and late into the night; Friday night plans may have been cancelled in order to assist those who waited until the last minute… but, like most things here, it was worth it.  Choosing the semi-finalists was thorough and democratic… conference calls were a spiderweb of addresses: Matt called in from London, Aidan from a photo-shoot downtown, Brandon & the Lucky team from their spot at 4Times; I from Fifth Avenue and 58th Street.  And then, before we knew it, our semi-finalists had names and smiling faces.

So tomorrow’s the big day, and it all will take place on 5F.  Lauren in our PR/Events department expertly scheduled our semi-finalists and ensured a setting suitable for judging and a mini-photo session with judge / campaign photographer, Matt.  John Jannuzzi and I have fashioned a playlist comprised of Summer Songs tweeted by @Bergdorfs and @LuckyMagazine… (we’re very excited about it).  Even Visual finessed their Faces of 5F installation to include over 500 of the submissions we received.  We’ll be live-tweeting, tumbling, blogging, facebooking and twit-vid’ing the occasion; naturally we hope you’ll join us to watch it all unfold. Until then, get to know each semi-finalist on Lucky Magazine!
