Designer Highlight: Marni
Consuelo Castiglioni’s penchant for bold prints, complementary colors, and masterfully mixed textures has enticed many a Marni fan. The result of the collection’s idiosyncratic combinations
is a look that’s both truly unique and eminently wearable. Already a favorite on our Third Floor, Castiglioni’s easy-to-mix looks now are available online.
Presenting Fall colors sparked by an electric colbalt, Marni classic silhouettes nod to iconic youth culture with flashes of neon, eclectic jewelry and graphic sensibility. Yesterday’s collegiate football games are called upon in color and appeal with buckled loafers, a deeply autumnal palette and a sweater called “M.” Modernist sportif touches peek through with neoprene accents and sleek, body-hugging silhouettes. Coats are mannish, playfully juxtaposing textures with embroidery, quilted wool and fur stoles with an insouciant ladylike air. Furthering the tension between glossy control and heedless indifference is Marni’s clever accessories collections that meld quirky with rockabilly grace: cuffs and brooches mix 1920s deco with wide-eyed childlike wonder. A printed shopper illustrated by Brian Rea calls upon children’s book illustrations with a more grown-up sarcastic sneer.

Fascinated by fashion from an early age, Consuelo Castiglioni moved from her hometown of Lugano, Switzerland, to Milan, Italy, to begin her career as a fashion consultant. It was there that she met her husband and business partner Gianni Castiglioni. In 1994, the Consuelo and Gianni launched Marni (named after Consuelo’s sister), the iconic luxury, eclectic women’s clothing, and accessories collection. Couture finishing and fabrics, wearability, and subtle elegance define Consuelo’s approach in making each of her garments a statement in time. Marni launched its first menswear line in Fall 2007.
