Coiffed: Easy Styles for NYFW
Each time we’re greeted with the frenzy of New York Fashion Week, we’re affronted with a perplexing loss of time. Shows have us whizzing all over the City, working under a time crunch that would befuddle the most schooled chronologist. And while it is a marathon, it’s one that expects you to smile and look your best no matter how tired or sick or overwrought you may be.
So this Fashion Week we’re sharing the tips & tricks we apply in order to get through the next month looking prim and polished. Today’s focus? The 3-minute easy-chic coiffe, readily spun at your desk, in a cab or whilst waiting in line for the next show to begin (if you’re feeling brazen & in need of a quick change).
The Double Pony: Give yourself a perky, high pony. Then, gather hair about 1/4 down and wrap another elastic around the tail. Tighten top elastic, then second elastic, scrunching the middle section into a regal mess. Pair with oversized sunnies and a boldly-colored clutch.
The Fast Fishtail: This is the classic fishtail undone: gather hair and fishtail as normal but keep it loose, sloppy and almost unraveling. Fix with elastic & a bit of raffia.
Working Girl Top Knot: Gather hair like a high pony but spin tail around thrice to create a top knot, affix with a mechanical pencil (PaperMate’s Sharp Writer 2 is preferred). Walk with a fast pace and hold your head high.
Sleek Low Pony: Draw a part down the middle (mechanical pencil does the trick), then tightly gather hair at nape. Fix with neon elastic. Goes best with Jil Sander and Rick Owens.
Pretend Blowout: Spray Oribe’s Dry Texturing Spray at roots. Gently tease hair with fingers. Flip head over & loosely run fingers through, flip head back and shake out locks. Voila.
