We cannot overstate the importance of applying lip gloss using the proper technique. What’s that you say?…you had no idea a “proper technique” is required. Allow us to fill you in.

Lip gloss is one of those makeup products that we seem to swipe all over our lips without much rhyme or reason, other than to deposit color and shine. Often times, little thought is given to shape, highlight, and definition. Ever wonder how your favorite celebrities pull off the pouty, softly shaped lips we see on red carpets and in magazine spreads? Well, the makeup artists responsible for creating those looks give great thought and consideration to the manner in which lip products are applied.

Today, we show you step-by-step how to apply gloss like a pro. You’ll be blown away by the difference proper lip gloss application can make.

1. Remove lip wand from gloss. Wipe off excess gloss on the rim. You don’t want to start your application with too much gloss.

2. Let’s chat a bit about the first placement of gloss:

- Never start in the corners of the mouth as this will lead to unattractive glossy blobs of gloss in the corners of your mouth (Egad!)

- Never arbitrarily glide gloss onto lip from end to end. This will lead to reflective shine across the ENTIRE mouth, when what you really want is selective, pouty  shine that pops in the center.

3. Your first placement of gloss will be dead center on the bottom lip. Without adding more gloss to the wand, stretch the first deposit of gloss from the center of the mouth to the outer corner.

4. Next, again without adding additional gloss, stretch the center deposit of gloss to the other side of the bottom lip.

5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 on the top lip.

6. Voila! Your lips should appear plump and pouty without looking overly glossed. You will notice a subtle reflective pop in the center, while the outer lips are down played to further bring attention to the center. See our before/ after split screen…big difference.
