BG Stories: Sarah & the Faces of 5F
I was one of the non-New Yorkers selected for the Faces of 5F semi-finalist casting. I must confess: upon arriving to the Fifth Avenue store, I was forced to admit (sheepishly, I might add) that no, I never had visited Bergdorf Goodman before. One of the girls smirked, “oh, now that’s funny.” I looked at another; she had a panicked look of obligation, as if to say I must show you everything at once. It’s simply lovely.
It most certainly was.
Suddenly, I was shuffled in and out of rooms; glorious rooms that smelled of perfumed kisses. I knew this was a magical place – a place someone could find a small treasure to call their own. With anticipation and time to kill, I browsed the 5th floor – letting my fingertips dance delicately over hanger after hanger of beautiful garments. Whimsy.
Then someone called my name, “Sarah Hawkins, this way please.”
I was giddy as a schoolgirl. I tried to contain my excitement, but there I was, in a chic glass cube, standing before Brandon Holley, Editor-in-Chief of Lucky Magazine, and Bergdorf Goodman’s own Creative Director, Aidan Kemp. John Jannuzzi and Cannon Hodge, their social media gurus were there, too. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
Brandon asked me a few questions: What were my career goals? Why the Philadelphia fashion scene? Why broadcasting and fashion? Before I knew it, I was whisked off to meet the final judge and campaign photographer, Matt Irwin.
I’m a sucker for accents and artists; and Matt, with his short shorts, Keds and high socks, was a total dreamboat. I couldn’t help but blush as he complimented me on my smile. Shortly after this dizzy and dreamy interaction, I was in a dressing room, surrounded by stylists, trying on pieces that would be featured in the Faces of 5F Fall ad campaign. More cameras flashed.
Just as quickly as it had started, it was over. Gift bag in hand (filled with reading material and model essentials), I passed through the Shoe Salon. I swooned over a few pairs of shoes before returning to the real world.
This must be kismet.
