BG Recipes: Breuckelen Orange Cocktail
A current happy hour favorite of ours, Breuckelen Orange reflects New York’s recent locavore distilling craze made possible by a legal shift permitting small distilleries to open their doors. Always inspired by the City’s surrounding cornucopia (from farmers markets to nearby vineyards), our barkeep continues the New York tradition with a gin distilled in American oak barrels just across the East River in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
The Breuckelen Distilling Company (named after the borough’s original Dutch spelling) crafts a sophisticated botanical mix of juniper, rosemary, ginger, grapefruit and wheat grown upstate. Mix it with blood orange, cynar and vermouth, and you’ve got the perfect soul-warming cocktail to toast the night.
Ingredients:
2 slices blood orange
1 oz Breuckelen Distilling Company Glorious Gin
1 oz cynar
1 oz carpano antica formula vermouth
Instructions:
In a cocktail shaker, muddle 1 slice blood orange.
Add ice and 3 spirits.
Cover the shaker and shake vigorously for 20 seconds.
Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with the second slice of blood orange.
Enjoy.
