About Last Night: Fashion’s Night Out

Recounting our third annual Fashion's Night Out at Bergdorf Goodman

Last night we joined the global celebration of fashion, style and joie de vivre.  Kicking off the night in the Beauty Level, Vogue editor Anna Wintour chatted with guests while signing copies of the magazine’s September issue while Oscar de la Renta presented his very limited edition (and now altogether coveted) kaleidoscope collaboration with Le Metier de Beaute.  Upstairs on the Main Floor, Lady Bunny spun dizzy tunes from her perch in Goyard while Linda Fargo handed Michael Kors the key to our store in recognition of the designer’s 30th Anniversary with us.  After a grand serenade by Broadway star Orfeh, we zoomed upstairs to catch the stars of BGs Best in Show preparing for their run down the purple catwalk.  The scene, as usual, was buzzing: “Of course I’m not nervous,” stated a pristinely white Lou Lou, “Ms Acra designed a marvelous look for me this year and I will give the audience a grand show.”  John Barrett’s Chaser was spotted bonding with Cushnie et Ochs’ Thyme; while Coco was seen prancing around the Rick Owens boutique in her latest Wes Gordon design.  It was quite the perfect fit.  When questioned about his first walk down the runway, Joseph Altuzarra’s Bean responded with an enthusiastic, “Let’s goooooooo!!!!!!!”

Meanwhile on 5F, jewelry designer and cosmic couple Amy Zerner & Monte Farber peered into guests’ future as they read tarot cards within their own crystal cube.  On the other side of the floor, Robert Verdi and guests spun a colorful Wheel of Fashion; guest spinners included jewelry designer Eddie Borgo, Carlos Falchi, Gilles Mendel and Tibi’s Amy Smilovic, and prizes ranged from a Carlos Falchi bag to Tom Ford sunglasses.  In a twist of luck, Eddie’s and Carlos’ spins procured their own prizes… we only can imagine how fortunate those recipients must be (or perhaps they received guidance from Amy & Monte beforehand?).  Skipping back to the third floor, our own James Aguiar (sporting a white suit decked in googly eyes) took to the catwalk to present BGs Best in Show judges Monique Lhuillier, Santiago Gonzalez, Bag Snob’s Tina Craig, Naeem Khan, and Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.  As DJ Johnny Dynell spun tunes appropriate for Man’s Best Friend to a crowd full of humans and puppies alike, our star pooches and their designers made their way down the purple carpet… some more confidently than others.  High moments included Nicholas Varney’s very confident Rigatoni strut his made-to-measure tuxedo, Reem Acra’s Lou Lou captivating the audience with more than a few poses and Badgley Mischka’s Whiskey & Rommel commemorating the royal wedding.  Soon enough the judges’ votes were cast and the winners were announced, awarding new-comers Cushnie et Ochs’ Thyme with the Spaniel Day Lewis Award and Bean with Paw-lly Golightly; Best in Show veterans Stitch (of Lela Rose) was awarded the Paws de la Huerta award for an incredibly boisterous homage to artist Jeff Koons’ Puppy and the Virginia Woof award to Whiskey and Rommel.  Steps away, Jason Wu met with eager collectors as he presented this year’s FNO doll inspired by a sporty look from this Fall/Winter 2011 Collection.

Meanwhile in the Men’s Store, Whoopi Goldberg, Marlon Gobel, Max Blagg, Euan Rellie, Cintra Wilson and our own David Coggins stirred up the controversy during the Whisker Wars roundtable while the Blue Vipers jazz trio buzzed in the background.  Mustaches (real and faux) were applauded and memorialized with photographs by Ruby Kobo designer Yuvi Alpert.  Thom Browne’s infamous antics even made a cameo when the prim nuns from this Womenswear A/W2011 show marched through the Men’s Store while chanting.  New York City’s finest roped off a single lane of Fifth Avenue as legendary songstress Ronnie Spector took to the window and serenaded fans with hits like Be My Baby and Baby, I Love You.  As the night lingered on and guests nibbled on cupcakes and lavender – yes, lavender – cotton candy, we meandered to 5F where Audrianna Cole, the soulful voice of our Holiday Windows video, dazzled us with songs from her forthcoming album.  And then, before we knew it, the night ended and just like always the BG family convened in BG Restaurant to finally sit, revisit the night and toast all of those who worked so hard to organize yet another fantastic Fashion’s Night Out at Bergdorf Goodman.
