How to Wear a Swimsuit When You’re Not at the Beach

Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean you have to retire your swimwear looks. Pair suits with everything from leather pants to hoodies, nylon anoraks or even rugby shirts. Finish off the look with transparent totes, eye-catching shades and sporty sock sneakers. Need further convincing on where to show off these looks? We’ve matched these ensembles with destinations around the globe. Plus easy tips on how to look your best in while showing some skin.

Wear: Balmain bodysuit, Balenciaga leather pants and Stella McCartney sunglasses.

Where: Channeling Kim Kardashian on a mega-yacht on the Amalfi Coast.

Pro Tip: “If great arms are what you’re after, keep it simple with planks or push-ups,” recommends fitness expert Carolyn Tallents of CLT Wellness. “These easy, do-anywhere exercises use your own body weight as resistance.”

Wear: Miu Miu cardigan, Lisa Marie Fernandez bikini, Roger Vivier sandals, Nikos Koulis earrings and Hermes headscarf.

Where: Meadowood Napa Valley for some American glamour.

Pro Tip: Channel Grace Kelly’s effortless glamour with a silk headscarf but make it modern by tying up your ladylike cardigan.

Wear: Charvet mens shirt, Haight swimsuit and Prada bag.

Where: The NoMad Hotel Downtown LA for California cool.

Pro Tip: Shop your boyfriend’s closet! Borrow your man’s button-down as an alternative to a beach cover-up.

Wear: (Left) Helmut Lang sweatshirt, Onia swimsuit, Balenciaga sneakers and Saint Laurent sunglasses. (Right) Prism swimsuit, Givenchy top, T by Alexander Wang shorts and Chanel sneakers.

Where: The Line Austin for that sporty element.

Pro Tip: “Two days a week, try weight training targeted towards the lower body,” says Rumble Boxing trainer Erika Hammond. “Some weighted squats do the booty good!”

Wear: Monse top, Lisa Marie Fernandez bikini, Balencaga bag and Dior visor.

Where: Tourists in the Berkshires for a laid-back option with gorgeous hikes.

Pro Tip: “To keep your post-vacation skin glowing, try Charlotte Tilbury’s Unisex Healthy Glow,” says grooming editor Garrett Munce. “It gives a hint of bronze without looking fake and a subtle shimmer for a natural looking highlight.”

Wear: Proenza Shoulder anorak, Livystone bikini, Chanel bag and sneakers and Tom Ford sunglasses.

Where: The St. Regis Princeville Hawaii for some rainforest realness.

Pro Tip: “Sun protection doesn’t stop when you leave the beach,” says Munce. “AmorePacific’s Sun Protection Mist is a luxurious, soothing, weightless mist making it the perfect lightweight sun care.”

Wear: Helmut Lang sweatshirt, Onia swimsuit and Balenciaga bag.

Pro Tip: “Feel confident in a bathing suit that doesn’t leave much to the imagination,” says Tallents. “Work your whole lower half with glute bridges: lay on your back with knees bent, feet planted on the floor about hips-width apart. Lift and lower your pelvis off the ground for 50 counts.”
