If anyone has mastered the art of making women look beautiful in their clothes it’s Johanna Ortiz. The Colombian-born designer studied fashion in Florida before returning to her hometown to start her namesake label. Now, her collection of romantic gowns and statement-making separates can be found on the chicest of ladies across the world. Ortiz created a special summer capsule exclusively for BG—here she talks specifics about the inspiration, her favorite piece, and more.
The Johanna Ortiz x BG summer capsule is available now in store on 3.
Bergdorf Goodman: What was the inspiration behind the capsule collection?
Johanna Ortiz: In my mind it was Casapueblo, the summer home of artist Carlos Paez Vilaróin in Punta del Este (Uruguay). It has a Mikonos style, all white with a blue horizon, but with a Latin American vibe.
BG: What is your idea of the ideal resort wardrobe?
JO: I always try for a versatile travel wardrobe consisting of a tropical print kimono from my brand, my husband’s white shirts and big earrings. This summer, of course I’m taking one piece from the Johanna Ortiz x Bergdorf Goodman capsule collection.
BG: Do you have a favorite piece in the BG capsule?
JO: The white one-shoulder dress. It’s the perfect balance between femininity, gypsy style and the sexiness of Brigitte Bardot.
BG: Who is the Johanna Ortiz woman? How does she spend her summer?
JO: The Johanna Ortiz woman is always festive and effortlessly elegant. She is a refined traveler enjoying an escape in the Tropics with the sand on her feet or an elevated La Croisette look in Cannes for the Film Festival.
BG: Do you have any fun plans this summer?
JO: I’m going to the Philippines for a wedding and then to Paris with my son, who is leaving for college.
