Live Window Revue: The Harlem James Gang
Always entertaining, The Harlem James Gang twists yesterday with today to create a pastiche of song, dance and incredible style. Today they joined us on 5th/58th to share some laughs and mishaps.
BG: Hey guys. Aren’t you looking dapper today? Are you getting excited for next week? Will this be your first time performing in windows?
THJG: Yup! We thought we’d get it done in style.
BG: It is a good place to start. Speaking of style… what’s your worst childhood fashion memory?
THJG: Collectively we would have to say parachute pants! They were great for breakdancing but not for fashion.
BG: Understandably. However I imagine they made quite the impact. So when it comes to breakdancing (or dancing in general), any performance mishaps you care to share with 5th/58th?
Dandy Wellington: We were performing at a private event and during our song Strut I lost control of my cane and dropped it off the stage. Without thinking, I jumped off the stage after it. It was pretty embarassing and, in hindsight, I should’ve just kept going… but, well, that’s show biz as Murray Hill would say.
BG: Good gracious. The pains we go to look just right…. so are there any favorite on-stage looks?
Jelly Jells: There was this fantastic alien costume that I had Dangerkat wear for one of my solo shows. It was so Jelly.
BG: Oh I can’t even imagine. What about guilty pleasures? What does it for you?
Mr. Woo: McDonald’s
Jelly Jells: Soy Chai Latte’s from Starbucks
Dandy Wellington: Eating out! Everyone loves eating!! I’m also obsessed with looking at the Bergdorf Goodman menswear windows.
Jelly Jells: Yes. Excessive shopping without purchasing. But now I can thanks to THJG!
