#GetScattered : Create Your Own BG Window

Dream up your own BG window with Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin and more!

“I almost want our windows to be perceived as hallucinations”  states David Hoey in our forthcoming documentary Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s.  This is something to remember when dreaming up your own window installation.

Seen by at least 1.5-million passersby each week, our windows have come to represent Bergdorf Goodman as much as the designers they showcase.  Sometimes simple and at other times wildly over-the-top, David Hoey’s creations always invite the viewer to pause and think deeply upon what’s presented behind the glass.

In honor of our film, you now have a chance to create your own Bergdorf Goodman window (using many of the windows props seen in the film, too!) — and enter for a chance to win a $500 Bergdorf Goodman gift card!

First, this is how you enter:

— Follow Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s on Facebook

— Visit the Create Your Window tab & make sure you like the Scatter FB page

— Design your own BG window using the backgrounds, looks and props

— When finished, turn your own FB cover image into your windows background

*click through the album on the right to see some of the props & looks featured in the app*

Second, follow David Hoey’s tips on creating a successful window display:

— Know you have three seconds to catch the spectators’ attention so make sure you make your basic point

— Be memorable, be bold

— Be theatrical, invent dialog for the mannequins, put on a show

— Think about scale

— Surprise your audience, be eccentric, mad or surreal

— The mannequins and the fashion are sacrosanct, they have to rise above whatever craziness surrounds them

A few more helpful tips:

While it’s impossible to imagine just what David Hoey is thinking, you always can reference his previous window installations for inspiration and, if you want to see who captured David’s eye during the first BG Windows contest, see the winning set on polyvore.  Our windows are often about taking a trip somewhere far away beyond Fifth Avenue (even if your feet are firmly planted on the sidewalk), so don’t forget that.  And, if you want to see just how our windows are constructed, watch this windows clip from Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s.

Good luck!
