Celebrating Fashion Week: Tony Viramontes

Honoring Dean Rhys Morgan's new book

“Draw for yourself, paint for yourself, take photographs for yourself. You will love them much more” – Tony Viramontes

The rediscovery and re-appraisal of the late 1980s fashion illustrator Tony Viramontes coincides with a splash of 1980s revival seen in the Fall 2013 collections. So it only makes sense to amp up the clothes to suit the occasion. There’s a kapow! element in much of the fashion featured behind the glass – think Tom Ford’s eclecto-pop Fall Collection (including the sequined look BG covergirl Iris Strubegger wore) mixed with Anthony Vaccarello’s studded mini dress – and we only can hope they will complement Fashion Week looks seen on and off the runway.

Viramontes’ illustrations will make a thrilling backdrop to these 80s-inspired looks, as well as to the custom Rootstein mannequins dressed in Oscar de la Renta, new Australian designer Dion Lee, Altuzarra and Zac Posen.  Among this, you’ll find quotations excerpted from Bold, Beautiful and Damned: The World of 1980s Fashion Illustrator Tony Viramontes, now available on the Seventh Floor (212 872 2570).
