About Last Night: the Anniversary Celebration

Celebrating 111 Years of Extraordinary at the Plaza Hotel

It was like movie fashion prom.

You know the supremely over-the-top affairs where everything falls perfectly into place and everything from the music to the decorations to the costumes are beyond all extraordinary imagination?  There even was an 80s tribute-band. And we took BG Family photos before the event began. Only this time there wasn’t any heart-ache and Giovanna Battaglia channelled Nefertiti while Zac Posen and Coco Rocha did their best My Name is Barbra rendition on the dance floor while the ivory- and lavender-clad Rubix Kube gave a dynamite performance of Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

Set at our venue of galas past, the Plaza Hotel was a sequin-flecked crush of the most fashionable of the fashion flock including Anna Wintour, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu, Michelle Harper, BG models Alana Zimmer and Eniko Mihalik, Stacey Bendet, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Iris Apfel, Roberto Cavalli, Karolina Kurkova and many, many more.  There even were whispers that The Plaza’s very own Eloise was giving the dance floor a twirl with @OscarPRGirl while powder-puff clouds and hand-made balloons (plucked from our very own Anniversary Windows) drifted overhead.  It was like being at a party inside our windows… where if you weren’t bumping into a dress fit for our Fifth Avenue bank, you were stepping on the train of its designer.  Anniversary Window gems (like the forced-perspective portrayal of our store or David’s finely-flocked menagerie) were scattered throughout the Plaza’s Ballroom — leering behind bars, making photo booth cameos and playing back-up for our band.

At one point during the wee hours, our own Linda Fargo (decked in the Akris 111 gown and cape) took to the stage with Eddie Borgo, Giovanna, Keegan Singh and a glittering swirl of those in the BG Family.  It was a night to toast all nights… it was Bergdorf Goodman Day after all — from our operatic happy birthday sing-along with Sasha Lazard to sharing almost everything with you via Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr — and we celebrated it beyond all definitions of extraordinary.

And while we like to think of ourselves as accomplished iPhone photographers, this also was a night worthy of a digital photobooth and our friends from BFA.  These are their photos.
