When it comes to menswear, there is nothing like stepping out in a perfectly tailored suit that makes you look and feel your very best. At Goodman’s, we have long been attracted to this feeling—as most men are—which is why twice a year we fly in the best tailors from around the world from brands like Kiton, Brioni, and Tom Ford, for our Made to Measure event.

This season we tapped three of New York’s of-the-moment talents, all of whom have their own distinct body type and inherent challenges when it comes to finding the perfect fit. From New York City Ballet dancer Harrison Ball to professional trainer and Nike ambassador Joe Holder to Broadway veteran Brooks Ashmanskas, Goodman’s sat down with each guy to discuss the Made to Measure experience. Read them all below and visit Goodman’s starting Thursday, September 20th through Saturday, October 6th to partake in the special event yourself.

Drop in or schedule an appointment at MadetoMeasure@bergdorfgoodman.com.

Harrison Ball, Soloist with the New York City Ballet, wearing Giorgio Armani.

Bergdorf Goodman: What are some of your greatest challenges when it comes to tailoring/finding the perfect fit?

Harrison Ball: My upper body is thin, my torso is long and my legs are muscular and not a standard size. Finding clothing that fits proportionally is difficult for me. Tailoring is key, especially with suits and jeans.

BG: Having experienced made to measure what would you say is the biggest misconception about it?

HB: It’s quick and painless. And besides, style is about being individual, so make it fit you.

BG: Where do you imagine yourself going in this look?

HB: I would wear this look anywhere, especially since it never hurts to look your best in New York or any big city for that matter.

TOM FORD_JOE

Joe Holder, Performance and Health Consultant and Founder of Ocho System, wearing Tom Ford.

Bergdorf Goodman: What are some of your greatest challenges when it comes to tailoring/finding the perfect fit?

Joe Holder: I have an athletic build with bigger thighs smaller calves and I also jump between sizes as my body transforms when training for different sports. The athletic build can make it hard to find suits that fit correctly.

BG: Having experienced made to measure what would you say is the biggest misconception about it?

JH: People think of it as a very ornate thing that takes a lot of time. In reality, it’s simple, easy and very bespoke, so people shouldn’t fear the amount of time that it takes.

BG: Where do you imagine yourself going in this look?

JH: I see myself running through the streets of Paris during fashion week in something like this, although I am typically underdressed in my normal athleisure.

Kiton_Brooks

Brooks Ashmanskas, Starring in Broadway’s The Prom, wearing Kiton.

Bergdorf Goodman: What are some of your greatest challenges when it comes to tailoring/finding the perfect fit?

Brooks Ashmanskas: Self-hatred. From the waist down, it’s a 15 year old boy and from the waist up, it’s a totally different person. The challenge is exactly that—it’s two different bodies. I used to be a rail when I was younger and then things changed as I got older. I’m not a perfect anything, so I need personal tailors.

BG: Having experienced made to measure what would you say is the biggest misconception about it?

BA: That it’s prohibitive. It’s not. For a person who has certain means, it’s made very simple, especially for someone like me who can’t just buy a suit off the rack.

BG: Where do you imagine yourself going in this look?

BA: It’s like a fall dinner party. I would wear it just about anywhere. It’s really comfortable and classic, like me. It’s a dressed up version of what I’d normally wear. There’s more life to it.
