NYFW: Men’s x John Elliott

John Elliott thought of a yacht club when designing his most recent collection “Watching Water”. “What you would wear there, what the garments would look like” he said backstage about the process. Consequently, the show began with a brightly colored, bold patterned towel draped over the shoulders of the signature active-inspired pieces that his fans love. The contemplative quality of water as referred to in the title was seen in silky, fluid shirts buttoned only at the neck and flowing, layered over tees and shorts or frayed hem denim. The performance side of boating was cleverly referenced in boldly color blocked hooded nylon anoraks and dusters, worn with shorts that looked like they had been softly watercolored. Nothing but smooth sailing for John Elliott.
