Men’s Fashion Week: February 2013
Fashion Week inspires awe and fear, causes excitement and exhaustion. Throw in an epic snowstorm and you’ve got an entirely new dynamic, and women trying to decide if they dare wear heels. So it’s reassuring, amidst the din to enjoy men’s clothes that aren’t fussy and smarter than they need to be: we’re looking at you Todd Snyder (212 339 3018). From double-breasted military overcoats to patterned knits, these were versatile looks with smart details and supreme discretion.

Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders (212 339 3327) is not averse to a little conceptualism. He had a truck with models in the back driving around the city. Their twitter feed gave you clues about where it would turn up next. You might see Scott himself in the back. Cleverness aside, the clothes welcomed color and the refined sportswear references that are never as accidental as they seem.
Michael Bastian (212 339 3289) understands the clean look of American sportswear, after all, he helped define it. In a change of pace, he introduced more black, and a more restrained mood. But that doesn’t mean he’s going goth. Bastian knows that the modern man wants clothes that are smart and easy to wear, and he delivered yet again.
