We’ve already expressed our love for The Made-to-Measure Event, but it’s still exciting to see it in full swing, and meet the experts who know more about sartorial matters than anyone else.

Consider Jean-Claude Colban, president of Charvet. He helps you navigate through thousands of exclusive fabrics, including new styles he’s designed for the season. How do they all differ? Well, Monsieur Colban is happy to explain (using his magnifying glass, if necessary). There are different weaves, finishes, hues, and of course stripes and checks. Whites (and he literally has hundreds) can have a tint of grey or blue or pink, they can be rebleached and rebleached again, until they gleam. The dapper Monsieur Colban is a very reassuring presence—he conveys the immense scope of what Charvet offers and helps you decide what makes sense for your personal style. The minimum order is only one and the made-to-measure fee is waived, so it’s a great chance to get a legendary shirt made just for you. Oh, and what are those pieces of silk beautifully stacked on the table? Why those are for the tie to finish your look, of course.

It’s a festive time. Wandering through the store you’ll find bold tweeds (Miller’s Oath) and jazz bands (The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn) and vivid fabric swatches everywhere. If it’s all too much stimulation, you can relax on Saturday with a traditional shave at Acqua di Parma. They’ll even make your own personal scent.
