KNT (Kiton New Textures) is a high-end fashion urban wear line created in Italy by twin brothers Mariano and Walter De Matteis (sons of Kiton Chief Executive Officer Antonio de Matteis), with a conceptual inspiration that combines haute couture manufacturing processes with shapes and textile structures indicative of urban architecture and metropolitan culture. To celebrate the launch of the brand at Goodman’s, we sat down with Mariano and Walter to talk about concept, inspiration, favorite pieces, and more. Read all about it below and shop the range now in store on 2.
Bergdorf Goodman: Can you tell us how the concept for KNT came about?
Mariano and Walter De Matteis: The world changes so fast and we need to be careful observers of new fashion trends while respecting our roots and trying to develop traditions in a coherent way for the present and the future. That’s why KNT was born: it is a project that represents our concept of relaxed elegance and comfort, while keeping our DNA values, which are the uniqueness of tailoring and innovations in fabrics and materials.
BG: How would you describe the brand in 5 words?
MDM and WDM: Nomadic, Globetrotter, Dreamer, Evolution, Luggage.
BG: What inspired the first collection?
MDM and WDM: Starting with obsessive research of new fabrics (KNT stands for Kiton New Textures), the collection incorporates the highly esteemed tailoring knowledge that Kiton is world renowned for.
BG: Do you each have a favorite piece?
MDM and WDM: Our favorite piece is the suit. It is extremely comfortable thanks to its jogger pants that make it very suitable to do many activities, as well as traveling. The KNT suit features an essential design, modern cuts and a nonchalant structure that is focused on urban architecture and metropolitan culture.
BG: What has it been like to work with your brother on the creation on this brand and do you have a favorite memory together from the process?
MDM and WDM: As twins, we are united by a very strong bond. We usually share almost everything, except girlfriends of course. We think that the most impressive memory is related to our press presentation held in Milano last January. It was our public debut and the first time that we were on the front line with journalists and buyers. It was and will be an unforgettable memory.
