The drawings and stories behind the 111th Anniversary Collection - Straight from the Designers themselves

Loree Rodkin
Architecture has always been the genesis, inspirationally, for my work. Bergdorf Goodman is iconic and, like the Chrysler Building, the embodiment of New York. The lines of the building have always looked like jewelry to me!

Valentino
This Valentino red tulle and Chantilly lace evening dress features a three-tier vaporous skirt with a drawstring neckline ornated by a pleated flounce. Created exclusively for Bergdorf Goodman’s 111th Anniversary, this one-of-a-kind piece is the essence of all that is Valentino.

Jason Wu
For Bergdorf Goodman’s 111th Anniversary, I decided to do one of my signature silhouettes in vibrant colors that first landed me in Bergdorf Goodman. I am so happy to celebrate such an important milestone with one of my favorite stores.

Carolina Herrera
With this dress, we celebrate a very special anniversary—Bergdorf in its 111th year and the thirty we’ve been together. It is the epitome of the Bergdorf Goodman woman; it’s elegant, feminine and, above all else, glamorous.
- CAROLINA HERRERA
Altuzarra
I was inspired by the private-label dresses of Bergdorf from the 1960s. This dress is tailored, body-skimming and lined in purple satin, which references the iconic shopping bags. Today’s urban woman inspired this vest. She’s on the go and wants to look chic yet effortless. I designed it for wearing from day into night; it can be paired with anything.
- JOSEPH ALTUZARRA
Marchesa
We wanted to create a piece that would mirror the level of elegance and sophistication that has become synonymous with Bergdorf Goodman. This exclusive one-of-a-kind design features Marchesa’s signature aesthetic and hand-embroidered details to commemorate Bergdorf’s 111th Anniversary.

Dolce & Gabbana
Happy Birthday, Bergdorf Goodman! Dress in white duchess satin with handpainted black roses, draped over a black tulle structure and inspired by the Fall/Winter 2009 Dolce & Gabbana show.

Monique Lhuillier
I remember my early trips to NY growing up. BG was always a must stop for us. I loved looking at the windows, and shopping there always felt so special! BG represents the best of the best and exclusivity! I designed this gown to reflect the heritage of BG. The classic beauty of the burnt copper lace draped and molded to the body exudes timeless elegance. Cheers to another 111 years! I am proud to be a part of the BG family!
- MONIQUE LHUILLIER

Manolo Blahnik
I designed this kicky little bootie just for my favorite folks at Bergdorf’s to celebrate a fantastic birthday . . . 111!!! . . . I said that it had to be special and filled with sparkle . . . punch and a lot a pizzazz . . . and here it is!!!
- MANOLO BLAHNIK

Judith Leiber
As the chandelier is a permanent part of the Bergdorf Goodman legacy, we are proud to offer our interpretation on a timeless Judith Leiber silhouette. A crystal chandelier meets a crystal minaudière—a perfect union for the BG 111 Anniversary.
- JANA MATHESON, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Akris
Since BG was my temple of fashion since a very young age, I made the Bergdorf Goodman facade the inspiration for my 111 Anniversary look with the exclusive photo print of this iconic building.
- ALBERT KRIEMLER

3.1 Phillip Lim
The look was inspired by neo-noir comic book heroines. I wanted to bring out the superheroes that exist all around us. The maze embroidery mimics the layout of a comic strip.
- PHILLIP LIM

Loewe
To mark the 111th Anniversary of Bergdorf Goodman, Loewe has selected from its archive a beautifully delicate clutch dating from 1901, the year when the Manhattan luxury department store first opened its doors. The revived clutch preserves the same craftsmanship and tradition of the archive piece that inspired it—a unique legacy that endures through the knowledge that has been passed from generation to generation in the Loewe studio. Realized in the finest materials—lizard or smooth calf leather—and with the same incredible hardware details, the bag retains the simplicity of the original, ensuring that it will remain desirable for at least another 111 years.
- STUART VEVERS, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Valentino
The “Rockstud” shoe was designed by using an element from our style heritage, the studs, with an elegant yet classic shoe shape.

Giuseppe Zanotti
To me, Bergdorf Goodman is a classic, timeless store with cutting-edge products and fashion-forward vision. I created a winter strappy metallic sandal in a very aggressive material, while keeping it neutral to be worn with ease. While fashion will continue to evolve, I foresee this shoe being worn for the next 111 years.
- GIUSEPPE ZANOTTI

J. Mendel
To celebrate a store as iconic as Bergdorf Goodman, I wanted to create a dress that would embody the same qualities of eternal glamour: sleek, sophisticated, timeless, urbane and yet with a dash of playful extravagance. Bergdorf’s has been making women dream for 111 years; this dress is for the woman who wants to step into that dream.
- GILLES MENDEL
Eddie Borgo
This limited-edition step collar was inspired by the custom wool jersey Balmain gown that guest of honor Katharine Graham wore to Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball at New York’s Plaza Hotel in 1966.
