Notes from the Runway

Resort has shaped up to be a feel-good season. Without question, the biggest news is exuberant color — the hotter the better. Hard to play favorites, but the strong pinks, vivid reds, electric blues and lemon limes top the list. Fortunately, there’s a nice balance in the market in neutral spice tones and perennial whites. Maritime, athletic and scuba, great prints, florals, stripes, artistic and zebra ratchet up the happy factor for Resort.

The biggest news in accessories mirrors ready-to-wear: We have never seen so much bright color in accessories, and we look forward to the unexpected ways women will wear it when it hits. We especially love the application of almost neon bright when applied to more “classic” design, such as the hot pink “Luggage” bag at Céline. Quiet quality with a bang!

There is so much to be excited about: the electro digital-Hawaiian prints at Givenchy and Stella; the hot pink high-slit maxi dress at Kors; those knockout bright pieces at DVF; the embroideries at Naeem Khan; the undulating spiced linen colorblocking at Proenza Schouler. Plus, new brands Thakoon Addition, 10 Crosby Derek Lam, Peter Pilotto, Reed Krakoff, and Coquette.

I hope you find yourself in better spirits just turning the page!

The fleet is in! The nautical inspiration is at work this season, and it is livelier, sportier and more striking than ever. Nautical accessories anchor the whole look, sometimes literally. Nothing transports you to sunnier places or sunnier moods than hints of maritime.

Piazza Sempione | Letarte | Rachel ZoeTHE BLUES

Blue is electric, stratospheric and oceanic. Think cerulean and ultramarine. This color makes black look like a sad old habit. Airy, ethereal and striking.

FLORA-RAMA

Designers this season digitized the garden, blending organic forms with geometric patterns: Think futuristic art nouveau. Prints range from abstracted Hawaiian florals to complex Tibetan mandalas.

These prints will carry you through summer. Heads up: More floral kaleidoscopic prints are on the summer horizon.
